Roll Call: Chair Gerlach, Santos, Affa
Bill 15 Parks and Recreation Committee, this evening
Amending the 2025 General Fund Budget to provide for a supplemental
appropriation of Five Thousand ($5,000.00) Dollars from Pool & Hot Tub
Foundation under the Step Into Swim grant program to support swim
lessons at city pools.
Ms. Ce Ce Gerlach stated thank you so much, Ms. Tolino.
Ms. Many Tolino stated that this is a grant that they received and all the
money will go to support free swimming lessons at the pool system.
Ms. Ce Ce Gerlach stated that it sounds simple enough. She stated
alright, cool. She asked are there any questions from her committee
colleagues, Ms. Santos or anyone else on the dais. She asked any
members of the public on questions on this particular item. She stated that
this will move forward to the regular Council meeting. She asked is it
anything else and stated that she knows that the EAC was taken off, but
anything else.
Ms. Mandy Tolino stated that she has a few quick updates.
Ms. Ce Ce Gerlach stated that they have time.
Ms. Mandy Tolino stated that one of the things that she wanted to mention
is that they have started their seasonal hiring. On the city of Allentown's
website right now all of our summer recreation aquatics and playground
positions are open. She stated that they encourage anyone that is 15 or
older to apply. The pay rate starts at $15 an hour so it is a reasonable pay
rate for some that are helping to support their families. She stated that they
are excited to have that open and they are looking to hire about sixty new.
They have about 60 returning. They have a good chunk of returners. She
stated that they find it a good place to work. She stated that her team is
proud of that. This weekend as well, they have their all star weekend for
basketball and that is going to be about 500 or so kids and parents at
Executive Education on Saturday from about 10 to 5 and on Sunday, from
10 until 3. It would be a good celebration if anyone would like to stop by. It
would be wonderful. Also this weekend, our Special Events team has been
working hard on a celebration for the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl
which will be a the PPL Center. Unfortunately, it is sold out, but it is going
to be a really excited event. She stated finally, she just wants to mention
sort of unofficially, they are looking to apply for grant funding to install a
basketball court at Stevens Park, She stated that if they do get it, it will be
approved with a pretty fast turn around. She stated that she just wants to
make sure that they hear from community members and people in that
community that is what they want to see there. She stated that it will be a
full court basketball for Stevens Park stating she is just mentioning that to
try to get the word out that in the next few weeks, they are going to try to
collect a few about that project.
Ms. Ce Gerlach stated ok, great a lot of people brought that up. She asked
anything else.
Ms. Mandy Tolino stated that is all.
A motion was made by Natalie Santos, seconded by Ce-Ce Gerlach, that this Bill
be forwarded to the full Council.
